Row New York: transforming the lives of New Yorkers
Row New York is a unique rowing club. It runs programs teaching young people in under-resourced communities the sport of competitive rowing – and through it, the values of teamwork, tenacity, and commitment to one’s self and others. Paired with intensive academic tutoring, their rowing programs have given thousands of teens the motivation and skills to excel both on the water and in the classroom.
Our Mission: Through the discipline of rowing and rigorous academic support, Row New York transforms the lives of New Yorkers, regardless of background or ability
Founded in 2002 with one borrowed boat and eight eager rowers at the World’s Fair Boathouse on Meadow Lake in Queens, Row New York is now a thriving organization serving more than 2,200 youth and adults. In 2012 they acquired a second facility, the Peter Jay Sharp Boathouse in upper Manhattan, enabling them to double the number of youths they were able to accommodate. In 2016, they opened a third location, the Paerdegat Basin Launch in Canarsie, Brooklyn.
Row New York also run adaptive and para-rowing programs and provide land-based and on-water workouts for athletes who wish to row for recreation, rehabilitation, and competition. Athletes begin the program learning the basics of rowing on ergometers, then move to on-water rowing on stable barges, and for competitive athletes, to rowing shells fitted with pontoons.

Run & Row New York
On November 19th Row New York is running a Run & Row event with The Armoury Foundation, a similar not-for-profit organisation that teaches and engages disadvantaged kids track and field skills. The event, called Run & Row New York, mixes an erg-based row followed by a run. Run & Row New York is being held at The Armoury Track in Washington Heights, New York, an iconic track and field venue and one of the fastest athletic tracks in the US.
