Poplar and Blackwall District Docklands Head 2017
The 2017 Docklands Head was held on Sunday, November 5 in what proved to be very challenging conditions over parts of the dead straight 2750 metre course. The backdrop of Canary Wharf was visible under the clear sky as the competitors mustered in calm conditions at the start in the Royal Victoria Dock. Conditions worsened after 1,000 metres then calmed as the crews entered the Royal Albert Dock when crews benefited from the strong tailwind. For some of the competitors, it was a testing weekend having raced the day before at Henley or Kingston.
The cold westerly wind was consistent and both divisions recorded very similar times without one favouring the other. As usual, all events were offered and the overall winner was Curlew IM2 4- who rowed strongly and managed the difficult conditions better than most. Despite the threatening westerly wind, the event went ahead on time and without incident.
