The German DRV rowing trials get underway in Leipzig this weekend
The German rowing team have their trials in Leipzig this weekend starting with a test on the ergo today and then a 6km time trial in pairs tomorrow.
Last weekend the team participated in the DRV (the German rowing federation) long-distance race in pairs with ten boats finishing within nine seconds of each other. National coach Uwe Bender was pleased with the results given that recent weather had made water training so difficult. “Despite the difficult conditions, the athletes have come through, all are in great shape,” said Bender. “The power density is currently very high hence the close results”
Deutschland-Achter had to spend a lot of the winter on ergos owing to the weather
The results of the 2k test today will be eagerly awaited given that the team has spent so much time on the ergometer over the winter. “We’ll see how much it helps that we have been sitting so much on the machine. We expect some personal best values are cracked,” said Bender. The results from this weekend will determine the crew combinations for the German small boat championships in Essen on April 20 After that selection will be made for the international regattas which start with World Cup 1 in Belgrade on May 5-7.
