Georgina Dooley of Agecroft wins the WJ1x category at Scullers Head
Georgina Dooley of Agecroft won the WJ1x category at Scullers Head. Dooley, who is 18, is currently studying maths, further maths and geography at Holy Cross College. “I’ve been rowing at Agecroft for about three years now but competitively since last September and am now being coached by Steve Hitchin”.
“This was my first time on the tideway. To be honest, it was much better than I was expecting – you hear stories that the Thames is horrible to row on but I think we were lucky with the conditions. It was fairly flat, didn’t rain and it wasn’t too cold so yes, I really enjoyed it! I had a bit of a crash with the girl ahead of me from Fulham Reach, about 500m after the first bridge but we both recovered well”.
“I stayed down with my sister on Friday night in Kew and then we headed straight back to Manchester after the race as it was the club’s charity Santa Pub Crawl. Everyone at the club was so happy.”
At first GB U23 assessment in November Georgina Dooley came 26th on the water overall, placing her 13th in the U23 group. She is now looking to put some time in on the erg over Christmas and intends to concentrate on the single for 2018. “I want to get into a university either in the UK or in the US that will support me through the rowing trials process.”
