Episode 7: Quintin Head

After a couple of weeks of settling back into our term timetables, we travelled to London to train and race on the tideway. We raced Quintin Head and the squad had a very successful day. Our crews placed 1st and 2nd overall out of all of the women’s Eights who raced on the day, winning the pennant for their respective categories. The CUWBC 1st VIII won the Elite category and placed 33rd out of 227 eights, ahead of many men’s crews.

On our second day on the Tideway we had some side by side fixtures with St Paul’s School and we have upcoming fixtures with University of London, Molesey and Oxford Brookes.
Training is becoming more intense with more high-rate stuff. We’ve been thinking about starts especially when we go into these fixtures on the Tideway. After all the head racing we’ve now been practising some standing starts, trying get that sequencing right, how we’re going to get to our top speed as quickly as possible.

Training is taking up the same amount of time as ever but it’s getting more intense now as we get closer and closer to Boat Race day. We are into the final selections now, we had seat racing on Wednesday so everyone is gearing up to see what boat they’re in ahead of the public crew announcement on the 26th February on the official weigh-in day.
